BACK AND FORTH

x CS 1984 independent CA

Sleeping Beast / K-9 / Quiet Solitude / The Pit / Dead of Winter / A.M. / Meat Flavour / Edge of Insanity

Personnel: cEVIN Key - keyboard, drumbox, tape, effekt, voice. Nivek Ogre - voice, lyrik. Recorded 11/83-1/84. Engineered, mixed, and produced by cEVIN at Brainstorm Room except "Sleeping Beast", engineered by Rave at Mush Room VBCC 21/1/84. According to the liner notes: "Thanx to The Monk & Bear for their contributions, N.E. & P.C., L.P.D.s (Nocturnal Emissions, Portion Control, Legendary Pink Dots) for their influences and hellos, B.L. (Bill Leeb) and friends for the support. TS for everything else."

Notes: Initially planned to be a limited edition of 50 copies, although only 35 copies were officially made (15 hand dubbed, 20 high speed dubbed). However, there were at least 15 more copies (numbered 36 through 50) produced, possibly by Bill Leeb. It's quite likely that additional bootleg copies also exist.

These tracks appear in a remastered form on BACK AND FORTH SERIES TWO (listed below). The mix of 'Sleeping Beast' included here is a different (and shorter) mix from those included later on the 'Remission' and 'Back & Forth Series 2' releases.

x EP 1986 Nettwerk/Capitol/EMI NTM 6301 CA

Smothered Hope / Glass Houses / Far Too Frail / Solvent / Sleeping Beast / Brap...

Notes: The Belgian EP release is labeled 45 rpm, but was pressed for play at 33 rpm. Label variations exist on the FACE 10 Belgian copies - one early edition of the Scarface pressing has a photo of skulls with crossbones on the label (same as the initial Nettwerk Canada 12 NTWK 12 pressings), whereas apparently later editions had more generic black lettering on plain white paper, with no photos.

Vinyl etching (on original Nettwerk pressings): Side Back (Side A), Side Forth (Side B)- TLC?

Some copies of the 1986 Nettwerk/Capitol/EMI pressings have the A & B sides reversed. Some copies have B side on both sides. Most copies are correct.

Some early copies included a small foldout Nettwerk calendar, which pictured all of Nettwerk's releases up to that point. It is unclear if this is the same calendar that was included in some copies of the "Bites" vinyl LP in 1985.

Smothered Hope / Glass Houses / Incision / Far Too Frail / Film / Manwhole / Ice Breaker / Solvent / Sleeping Beast / Glass Out / Brap...

Personnel: cEVIN Key, Nivek Ogre, with guest artists Wilhelm Schroeder (bass synth on 3 tracks), Mr. D. Plevin (fretless bass on "Glass Houses"). Produced and engineered by cEVIN Key and David Ogilvie. Recorded in 1984 at Mushroom, except 'Incision', 'Film', 'Manwhole', and 'Ice Breaker', which were recorded in 1985 at Mushroom.

Notes: The versions of "Film" and "Icebreaker" differ from the versions later released on the CS / CD versions of BITES listed below. The version of 'Sleeping Beast' included here is slightly different (and longer) than the mix that appeared earlier on the original 'Back & Forth' cassette. The version that appeared on 'Back & Forth Series 2' is essentially the same as the one included here, only slightly edited.

BITES

x LP 1985 Nettwerk NTWK 15 CA

x LP 1986 Nettwerk/Capitol/EMI NTL 30002 CA

Assimilate / Dead Lines / Blood On The Wall / Icebreaker / The Choke / Social Deception / Basement / Last Call / Film

Notes: This is the order the tracks appear on the album. The cover lists the track "Film" as appearing on the end of Side Attack (side 1) after "Icebreaker".

The track "Icebreaker" that appears on various editions of BITES is made up of the first 30 seconds of the track "Manwhole" edited together with the track "Ice Breaker", both originally on REMISSION (listed above).

The 1985 edition included a full colour Nettwerk calendar/catalog insert, and had black and white center labels with track listing on one side of the vinyl and Nettwerk logo on other. On the label with the track listing, the text “bites are infectious” appears.  Label contact address and phone number printed on back of jacket.

Assimilate / Dead Lines / Blood On The Wall / Church / Icebreaker / Tomorrow / Dead Doll / Film / Love / The Choke / Social Deception / Christianity / Basement / Last Call / Falling / The Centre Bullet / Cage

Another version of this 1985 cassette exists, notable by its j-card prominently stating "Printed And Made in Canada by WORLD RECORDS". This version shares the same catalog # on the outer packaging, but the tape itself is labeled as catalog # WRC4-4143. It has the following tracklist:

Assimilate / Blood on the Wall / Deadlines / Church / Ice Breaker / Tomorrow / Dead Doll / Film / Love / The Choke / Social Deception / Christianity / Basement / Last Call / Falling / The Centre Bullet

x CS 1985 Nettwerk-Important 88561-5008-4 US

Personnel: cEVIN Key, Nivek Ogre, with guest artists Wilhelm Schroeder (bass synth on 2 tracks), Tom Ellard (tapes, samples on "Assimilate", Mr. D. Plevin (bass guitar on "Blood On The Wall"). Produced and engineered by cEVIN Key and David Ogilvie. "Assimilate" produced and mixed by Tom Ellard.

Notes: "The Centre Bullet" appears in a re-recorded form, with vocals added by Edward Ka-Spel, on the Tear Garden's debut EP as listed in the Tear Garden section of this discography.

Notes: Front cover inset picture is tan instead of black and grey. Small inset pictures on back cover are slightly different from Canadian copies. There are 3 vinyl label variations on the FACE 15 copies. Early pressings have ornate black labels with silver text, later copies have generic pinkish lettering on black labels or pink labels with black lettering.  See below for more information on the pink label pressing.

xLP 1989 Play it Again Sam FACE 15 BE

This vinyl is a later pressing of the FACE 15 Belguim vinyl.  The track listing is the same as the other two pressings.  There are a few differences from the original black labeled pressing.  This pressing has the words ‘MADE IN BENELUX’ on the spine.  Additionally, the vinyl labels are a redish pink with black writing.  This pressing has ‘The Choke’ written on the vinyl label, while the original version has it listed as ‘Choke’.  It should also be noted that the listed times of the songs on the vinyl label differ from that of the first pressing, in many cases by quite a bit.  For instance, ‘Last Call’ is listed as 48 seconds shorter on this later pressing.  In this instance, the first pressing has the incorrect time listed.

Info: Produced and engineered by cEVIN Key and Dave Ogilvie. Mixed by Key / Ogilvie and Chris Sheppard. The European vinyl erroneously lists production by cEVIN Key and Dave Sheppard.

Front cover is black and blue instead of black and white. The version of 'Film' is from 'Bites'. There exist two different label variations for the BIAS 37 editions: earlier copies had black lettering on white labels, while later copies (presumed to be pressed around 1990 or so) had more generic black text on yellow labels.  On the back cover the words “Made In Benelux” appear at the bottom.

One Time One Place / Gods Gift (Maggot) / Three Blind Mice / Love / Stairs And Flowers / Antagonism / 200 Years / Dig It / Burnt With Water

Notes: To promote this release, the record company distributed specially printed hospital gowns, although due to their rarity, the existence of these has been called into question. Promo copies of the vinyl LP were the same as the regular US copies, although the outer cover jackets included an industry-standard gold stamp indicating the promo status.

The version of "Love" on MIND:TPI differs from the version included on the BITES CS / CD.

Some copies of the NTL 30005 vinyl editions come with a single page Nettwerk insert. On this pressing, the last 5 seconds of 'Burnt With Water' are cut out.

The Canadian pressing has a lock groove on the end of side B (the ending samples from 'Burnt With Water' are looped, though this can only be heard on certain turntables without automatic stylus pickup). PIAS copies are not pressed this way and consequently may be missing a few odd seconds of 'Burnt With Water'. More info needed. Additionally, the Nettwerk pressings of the LP cover art have a slightly more 'purple' tinge than the PIAS versions, which are more blue in color. This is likely simply a by-product of the inks used, rather than a conscious effort to differentiate the two.

The Australian pressing may have been promo-only, as the only reported copies have a promo sticker on the rear sleeve as well as a stamp marking on the vinyl label. This pressing did not include the lock groove of the Canadian copies.

The US cassette listed initially (catalog # C4-90467) needs to be verified, as catalog # 4XT-12545 seems to be the regular Capitol release. Additionally, an advance copy of the US cassette issued by Capitol also exists, with the same 4XT-12545 catalog number. This release has a peach-coloured insert with black text and no artwork.

Vinyl etchings: These are apparently only present on the Canadian pressings.

There were two different issues of the vinyl: One with original labels (light orange) one with new labels (pink and green).

Vinyl etchings:

  • Side A - WEVE GOT THE TASTE and SHEPPARD WASHES THE BLOOD
  • Side AA - ICH BIEN SHOOSHER, LOVE AFFAIR, RPM, COPA, BUSINESS and DIAMOND

"ICH BIEN SCHOOSHER" (as well as the "ICH BIN SHEISS" etching on the 'Cleanse Fold' vinyl etching listed below) probably refers to the Skinny Puppy concert in Munich, Germany on November 4, 1986, whereas cEvin, Dwayne, and Ogre collaborated with the bands Severed Heads, a;Grumh, and Snowy Red on a 40-minute improvised noise set. An audience member can be heard late in the show screaming something similar to the above. This concert was recorded and intended for release on vinyl LP through Puppy's then-European label, Play It Again Sam. Unfortunately, the master tapes were stolen when the touring van was broken into. The show now only exists on a live bootleg audience tape.

"WEVE GOT THE TASTE" refers to the Tina Turner sample (taken from a Diet Pepsi commercial) that appears in "Assimilate (r23 remix).

"SHEPPARD WASHES THE BLOOD" is a reference to Toronto DJ and long-time Puppy friend, Chris Sheppard.

"LOVE AFFAIR", "RPM", "COPA", "BUSINESS" and "DIAMOND" are all names of Toronto and Vancouver nightclubs, some now defunct.

Notes: To promote this release, Capitol US distributed eyeball paperweights. The original Capitol US release of the CD was housed in a color artwork longbox.  Promo copies of the vinyl LP were the same as the regular US copies, although the outer cover jackets included an industry-standard gold stamp indicating the promo status.

The United Kingdom 12” vinyl has a thick, deluxe darker tone inner sleeve with a notch opening.  The text coloring of the song titles is also different and at the bottom, the following words appear, “audio sculpture by”.

Rumours of a brown/smoke-coloured vinyl (for Nettwerk Canadian vinyl copies) have been mentioned, but it is has been generally concluded that these are simply poorly-made black vinyl, thus the diffrentiation in tone.

Vinyl etchings (presumably these are from the Canadian vinyl, as the US version does not include them):

An advance-release promotional cassette was also issued by Capitol US, with a plain red j-card and no graphics.

Notes: The first 500-1000 (needs clarification) copies of the Nettwerk Canada pressings are in gatefold sleeves, with full-coloured labels from the 'Dogshit' artwork. A coloured vinyl version (either red or white) is also rumoured to exist, though this has yet to be verified. Presumably, the later Canadian, as well as all US pressings (which incidentally have noticeably glossier sleeve stock), do not have the gatefold sleeves and have the generic Capitol/Nettwerk labels rather than the 'Dogshit' art labels. The Australian pressings were non-gatefold and "Manufactured And Distributed by the EMI music group Australasia", according to the back cover of the album, though oddly enough the words "Printed in the U.S.A " appear under this info. It has been suggested that the sleeves were printed in the US.

The 12" vinyl version of 'Punk In Park's Zoo' has a slightly different ending (none of the cartoon-like sounds) to the one on the 'VIVIsectVI' CD. Intro / Anger / The Choke / Addiction / Assimilate / First Aid / Dig It / One Time One Place / deep down Trauma Hounds / Chainsaw / Brap (actually Draining Faces) / Smothered Hope

Info: Recorded by Ric Arboit. Mixed by David Ogilvie

Notes: Recorded live at the Concert Hall, Toronto, May 31 to June 1, 1987. The track listing above is proper one. On the cover of both releases, "One Time One Place" is incorrectly listed as "Gods Gift Maggot". The later pressing of the CD corrected this error as well as indexing each song separately. The CD (all copies) as well as the DVDs (all copies) incorrectly list the song 'Draining Faces' as 'Brap'. The original pressings of the CD had the entire 70-minute show on one index track. The initial DVD release also was rife with errors--incorrectly listing 'God's Gift (Maggot) in place of 'One Time One Place' as well as missing the entire intro (to the track 'Anger') and beginning and ending credits as seen in the VHS versions. This DVD was promptly recalled by Nettwerk and a restored, corrected version (distinguishable by a 'Version 2.0' on the spine label) was released thereafter. This 'Version 2.0' edition still included the mislabeled 'God's Gift Maggot' on the outer case tracklist. Oddly, the European edition has a corrected track listing and includes the intro footage, yet has been rumoured to be missing the stereo audio mix.

Notes: CD edition was re-released in 1993 in a remastered version, as previous copies were erroneously mastered with Dolby on, which 'flattened' the album's overall sound. All subsequent copies are the remastered version. The remastered versions can be detected by the 'thunderclap' sound (which originally was at the ending of track 9, 'Choralone') being indexed as the opening of track 10 ('Amputate') instead. The original Capitol US release of the CD was housed in a color artwork longbox.

Notes: The tracks "Addiction (second dose)" and "Testure (S.F. mix)" are listed on the cover of the vinyl LP editions, but do not actually appear, though it is rumoured that certain pressings of the vinyl LP DO include all tracks (this has yet to be verified). Similarly, not all copies of the cassettes include these tracks, despite them being listed on the j-card. "Serpents" is mistitled "Serphants" on the LP. This misspelling also appears on the CD art. The last few seconds of "deep down Trauma Hounds (remix)" are cut off on the CD.

Notes: This NTSC-format video was a promo-only release, and was never officially released except in very limited quantities to clubs or DJs. The videotape is labeled with the following: "SKINNY PUPPY "Worlock" LENGTH, 5:35MINS (6or8)/10/92 D1(lots of blurred numbers) CAPITAL RECORDS, INC. Numerous bootlegs also profess to be 'promo' copies, further complicating this 'release'. Certain copies were also distributed via a promo VHS tape given away by Gary Blair Smith's Plasma Films, which included the A-rated version of 'Worlock' alongside the Puppy promo videos for 'Spasmolytic' and 'Testure', the 'Chunkblower' trailer (with music by Key and Goettel and appearances by Dwayne and Bill Leeb) and Front Line Assembly's 'Virus'. Personnel: N. Ogre, cEVIN Key, D. Rudolph Goettel, with guests Mr. D. Plevin (fretless bass on 3 tracks), Rave (guitars), Green Guy (12 string on "Rash Reflection"), Greg Reely (piano on "Rash Reflection"). Produced by David Ogilvie and cEVIN Key. Recorded by Ken Marshall and David Ogilvie. Mixed by Ogilvie and Marshall. "Tormentor:, "Rash Reflection", and "Reclamation" mixed by Reely and Marshall. Recorded spontaneously at Mushroom. Mixed at Little Mountain 1990.

Notes: To promote this release, Capitol US distributed 2 different cardboard masks based on the Jim Cummins "monster faces" on the cover of the album.

The third cassette listed was a promo-only advance tape (with no artwork) with a coloured j-card insert listing tourdates and bio info.

The booklet/ liner notes for initial pressings of the CD were printed as a large full color foldout cover, while later pressings included a stapled booklet with a color cover and black and white interior. These had the same catalogue # and UPC. The initial UK pressings of the CD had the same catalogue # as the US editions, but had references to "printed in the U.S.A" digitally edited to state "printed in the U.K.". A line above the "compact disc" logo on the disc itself (UK version) also says "Made In Austria", oddly. The 1998 reissue features a foldout booklet with credits and a slightly different cover/ disc design.

The Belgian CD release has no artwork on the spine - just the text on a plain white background. The original Capitol US release of the CD was housed in a color artwork longbox.

Nettwerk Europe gave away 50-100 promo copies of the vinyl LP, housed in a generic black sleeve (stamped with a gold promo stamp) and with a sticker on it saying 'TOO DARK PARK - SKINNY PUPPY' in the ornate TDP font. The vinyl itself was the same as the regular Nettwerk Europe edition.

Love in Vein / Killing Game / Knowhere? / Mirror Saw / Inquisition / Scrapyard / Riverz End / Lust Chance / Circustance / Download

Personnel: Ogre, Key, Goettel. Produced by David Ogilvie and cEVIN Key. Recorded by Ken Marshall. Mixed by Marshall, Ogilvie, and Goettel. Edited by Anthony Valcic. Mastered by Brian Gardner at Bernie Grundman Mastering. The track 'Download' includes the uncredited input of Martijn De Kleer (of the Legendary Pink Dots/Tear Garden), as some of his synthwork was secretly recorded and edited into the track.

Notes: This album was originally intended to have 11 tracks, but the song which was supposed to be the 10th track, "Left Hand Shake", had to be dropped due to problems getting the rights to use some samples of Timothy Leary speaking. (From the notes of cEVIN Key - "Sample from 'Tune In Turn On'. Permission denied from Henry G. Saperstein, owner of copyright - but Leary granted permission, so what do you do?") Rumours that the track would be released as a bootleg single sided 7" were unfounded, but the track was later released on the Internet as a sound file, and appears on the unofficial cassette release AIN'T ENOUGH DAMN PUPPY (listed below). Versions also appear on the first European edition of BRAP: BACK & FORTH SERIES 3+4, on the bootleg release INTOLERANCE, and on the very limited TRACK 10 single (listed below).

The Canadian CD release has 10 tracks on the disc, while the US disc has 11 with the 10th track being 0:00 long. In both cases, "Circustance" is labelled track 9 on the cover, and "Download" is labelled track 11.

The initial cassette listed was an advance copy, and included a white j-card insert and no I, Braineater cover artwork. The listed track time for 'Download' is erroneously listed (as 1:01). Back of insert has release dates and brief info on 'Last Rights' and 'Inquisition' single releases, as well as info on promotional "marketing tools" (bio, photos, poster, 1x1s and stickers).

Early releases of the US version of the CD had a pressing glitch that caused everything on the disc to be shifted 39 seconds too early (i.e. the first 39 seconds of "Love in Vein" were missing, "Killing Game" started 39 seconds before the first track on the CD ended, etc., and "Download" ended with 39 seconds of silence). This glitch was repaired, leading to a second pressing that included a sticker reading "Quality Controlled Skinny Puppy".

Copies purchased through the Columbia House CD club (CW2-30072) feature yet another pressing glitch, this time on the disc art itself. These CDs have the actual disc design from the 'Tormentor' single printed on the disc, rather than the proper 'Last Rights' design. All outer artwork, music, etc. seem to be correct.

The US releases, as well as the PIAS copies, have the ornate lettering by cover designer Jim Cummins (aka I, Braineater) replaced with plain white text. The original Capitol US release of the CD was housed in a color artwork longbox.

The US vinyl LP is promotional-only, and is housed in generic white or black die-cut sleeves with a sticker attached stating: "SKINNY PUPPY - THEIR LAST (crossed out) LATEST RELEASE - LAST RIGHTS - FEATURING - "INQUISITION" - ANY QUESTIONS? - for promotional use only - not for sale - SPRO-79257-79258". Initial copies of the US vinyl were housed in generic black sleeves, with later copies going out in white sleeves as all copies were intended to have.  The German and UK vinyl pressings both have the full I, Braineater cover art, though they both featured the plain block lettering on the covers. These were also pressed before the labels got word that no artwork was to be reproduced on the sleeves. All of the pressings in all territories were limited to reportedly less than 1000 copies, though the promo US edition may have had more, as it is by far the most common.

Additionally, if this wasn't enough trouble plaguing the release, there exist copies of the German pressings (full artwork covers, etc.) which include incorrect music.  One copy has the exact same sleeve, labels, and vinyl etchings that is consistent with the German pressing full artwork vinyl, however, music on the entire disc is the album ‘Swallow This Live’ from ‘Poison’ (disc 1 of the double set).  Furthermore, there may be another copy that has incorrect music only on Side B. The vinyl's Side B etching/catalogue number remain intact, but according to Jesper@electronic-obsession.se, the music was some sort of live rock band.

The US vinyl LP was rereleased in 2009.  The rerelease is housed in a black cover and has a smaller version of the original LP artwork on the front cover.  The sticker on the cover reads: AVAILABLE FOR THE FIRST TIME ON VINYL SKINNY PUPPY LAST RIGHTS DOUBLE 12” MASTERED FOR VINYL 45 RPM 180 GRAM BLACK VINYL BONUS CD.   The layout was done by Kim Kinakin.    The labels on the double vinyl are black and contain the Skinny Puppy logo.  Additionally, a bonus Last Rights CD is included.  The CD is black with the Skinny Puppy logo.  The vinyl became first available on the ‘In Solvent See’ tour.  The etchings on the vinyl include the band name, album title, and side of vinyl, for example: “SKINNY PUPPY – LAST RIGHTS A”.

The 1994 Music Master CD catalog from the UK gives the following track listing for this release, which appears to be the working titles for what eventually became this album:

Hinder / Killing Game / Cancelled / Xception / Catbowl / Hurtful 2 / Rivers End / Fester / Premonition / Wrek / Epilogue 2

There are rumours of a cassette release with the wrong music (a rock band) recorded on it, though details are sketchy. Need more info.

Also available in a limited edition of 1000 that came in an etched metal box - this limited edition was only available by direct mail order from Nettwerk Canada. The first 194 of these also came with a numbered print signed by Key and Ogre.  Some of the remaining tins contained an unsigned and unnumbered print, while the others did not contain a print at all.  The version of 'Sleeping Beast' included here is actually a slightly edited version from 'Remission', whereas the original mix on the 'Back & Forth' cassette was roughly 11 seconds shorter. Thanx to Corey for this info.

Some copies have blue-coloured discs, whereas the original CA/US copies are purple.  In addition to purple discs, there is a later pressing from Nettwerk America with the same catalog number as the earlier US release.  The CD disc is black.  Additionally, the words ‘Limited Edition’ have been removed from this pressing and the number 2 appears much larger than the original pressing.

A bootleged Russian LP exists and has the catalog number CC:2301.  Please see the bootleg section for more details.

Info: Disc A produced and engineered by Hiwatt Marshall and cEVIN Key, originally recorded 1983-1985. Mastered by Anthony Valcic. Disc B recorded and produced by David Ogilvie, Hiwatt Marshall, and cEVIN Key. Recorded live between 1990-1992. Mastered by Anthony Valcic.

Notes: The first disc (BACK) is predominantly unreleased demo recordings from 1983-85, aside from "Brap" and "Last Call", which are both live tracks. "Brap" is from the "Kill To Cure / "Fractal Zoom" bootleg CD and "Last Call" is from a live-on-the-air CBC broadcast from 09.29.1986. The remainder of the tracks comprise the second disc (FORTH) and are live material, unreleased mixes and out-takes from 1990-92. Track-by-track breakdown is as follows (special thanx to Corey Goldberg for this info as taken from the SP FAQ): DISC A: Jackhammer - demo / Splasher - demo / Double Cross - demo / Yo Yo Scrape - demo, vocals by cEvin / Carry - demo / Guilty - demo / The Soul That Creates - demo, vocals taken from 'My Voice Sounds Like Shit' / Brap - a live improvisation from Logo in Bochum Germany 1986 using the track from 'Remission' as foundation. The full show can be found on the bootleg CDs 'Kill To Cure' and 'Fractal Zoom'. / Sparkless - demo / Dead Doll - demo version of track from 'Bites' / Deadlines - demo version of track from 'Bites' / Last Call - live version (very slightly edited) from the 9/26/86 CBC Brave New Waves radio show. DISC B: Uranus Canceled: a different version of the track 'Knowhere?' from 'Last Rights' / All Eyes - live improvisation from the 1990 'Too Dark Park' tour. Part of this track can be found, along with other improv, as part of the track 'Walking On Ice' from the 'Spasmolytic' single. / Reclamation - live from 'Too Dark Park' tour / Spasmolytic - possibly a live in-studio demo take, with vocals added later. Either way it's definitely a studio version. / Grave Wisdom - alternate studio version. Possibly a less finished version of the track. Also appears on the Nettwerk Decadence boxed set as 'Grave Wisdom (alternate version)' / Tin Omen - the first part of this track is live from the (crappy) CD bootleg Heaven's Trash, recorded live in Chicago on 11.02.90. The second part is a pro recorded live version, probably from the Palladium in Los Angeles on 12.14.90. / God's Gift - live in Los Angeles at the Palladium 12.14.90, from the 'Too Dark Park' tour / Convulsion - live in Los Angeles at the Palladium 12.14.90, from the 'Too Dark Park' tour / Nature's Revenge - alternate studio version / Love In Vein - remix from the planned, but unreleased, single / T.F.W.O. - live in Los Angeles at the Palladium 12.14.90, from the 'Too Dark Park' tour / Choralone / live in Los Angeles at the Palladium 12.14.90, from the 'Too Dark Park' tour.

The North American edition and the second German edition are "enhanced" versions that include multimedia CD-ROM material. The original German version was retitled DIGITAL BRAP to distinguish it from the non-enhanced release. The track "Lefthand Shake" is still listed on the packaging of this second edition, but it has been dropped from the disc. The European editions do not have the title 'Brap' listed on the front cover, whereas the US editions do. All editions were housed in a foldout digipack, except the SPV/Synthetic Symphony reissues, which were housed in jewel cases. The European copies were housed in a thicker, glossier cardboard digipacks than their North American counterparts, and some (perhaps initial) copies included a full-colour photo slipcover over the usual digipak packaging. Certain copies of (presumably) the Canadian pressings erroneously had both CDs labeled as 'Vol.3' on the discs themselves. They can be distinguished as the true Vol.3 disc has green lettering, whereas Vol.4 has red lettering. Swedish pressings have 'All Eyes' and 'Reclamation' indexed as a single track.

The European release has, instead of the instructions on how to load up the multimedia, a tracklist different to the one on the back cover.

Also referred to as having release number SUB 004, though this is not listed anywhere on the CD or liners.

THE PROCESS: ADVANCE TWO SONG SAMPLER

x CS 1996 American/Warner no number US

Candle / Hardset Head

Notes: This release was a promotional radio giveaway packaged in a cardboard sleeve. The two tracks appear on both sides of the cassette.

An early promo demo tape form with six tracks (Jahya / Death / Disco Infernal (later known as Candle)/ Hardset Head / The Process / Carpenter (later known as Curcible) may have also been released, with several early and unreleased mixes. Additionally, it is known that provisional titles for other 'Process' tracks included 'Luster' (which was to be 'Morter'), 'Hudd' (later 'Amnesia'), 'Hatekill' (unreleased), and 'Sub-Skull' (also unreleased).

A later CD promo appeared with the entire album, but with a slightly different mix. This may be the same thing as the advance CD copy listed below, which does not have different mixes. Need more info on this.

Personnel: D.R. Goettel, cEVIN Key, N. Ogre with guests Pat Sprawl (guitars on 6 tracks), Philth (wave manipulation on ‘Morter’ and ‘Amnesia’), Pepperdine (viola and cello on ‘Cult’), Martin Atkins (voices on ‘Death’), Lauren Boquette (backing vocals on ‘Candle’ and ‘Hardset Head’), Rave (guitar on ‘Cult’), and Troll (guitar on ‘Cult’). Produced by David Ogilvie and Skinny Puppy 1992-1995. Recorded at Subconscious Studios (June 1994-May 1995), Shangri-La Studios (November 1993-May 1994), and additional recording at Soundhouse, Seattle. Mixed at Warehouse Studios (September 1995) by David Ogilvie, Ken Marshall, and cEVIN Key. Assisted by Gary Winger. Edited and mastered by Anthony Valcic at Enterprise. ‘Shangri-La LA Studio 93’ constructed and engineered by Ken Marshall, Produced by Skinny Puppy and Martin Atkins. Also contributing to the production of this album: Mark Walk and Roli Mossiman.

Notes: The first CD listed above is a promotional release with the same track listing as the commerical release. It is packaged in a plain jewel case with no front insert and a green and white back cover which includes a short band bio and track listing where "Hardset Head" is misspelled "Hardest Head".  The second CD listed has a regular version and a promotional version.  The promotional version has all the same artwork but is stamped with a generic gold promotional warning.

The inlay for some of the CDs contained a picture of a skull beneath the disc tray, while other did not. This may have been a difference between US and Canadian releases.

Also referred to as having release number SUB 006, though initial 1996 copies made no mention of this in the liners or packaging.

The W2 43057 edition of the Columbia House pressing has a gray coloured disc, unlike other versions which have black and gray discs. Additionally, the barcode is different than those of other editions.

A sticker was attached to the front cover stating: "the process - the final skinny puppy release". A very small amount of initial U.S. copies (possibly distributed by Best Buy stores) were erroneously encoded with music by rock group Bush (the album 'Sixteen Stone').

The Taiwan edition had an obi strip that referenced Trent Reznor, Ministry and Nine Inch Nails to attract CD shoppers.

Recorded and mixed at D&D Studios, NYC. Engineered by Leo ‘Swift’ Morris, assisted by Kevin Bergen. Additional production and remix on ‘Chainsaw’ by Josh Wink.

Notes: Due to an error at Nettwerk's US pressing plant, initial US copies were released with Christian folk music on the audio portion of the disc. The Christian music is from ‘The Wedding of the Lamb: Song of the Bride’ words and melody by David Magiera, arranged and recorded by Michael & Renita Ten Eyck and was put out by Bride Of Christ Ministries.  This was promptly recalled by Nettwerk. Alien Jourgensen is also erroneously credited in the liner notes for production and engineering on both 'Killing Game' and 'Worlock'. It appears that the Nettwerk UK edition was also distributed in Germany, France, Scandinavia, and Spain, as copies do not appear to have been physically produced and released in those countries.

A 12-track 'unmastered' promo CDR was released in Europe, and North America as well, in very limited quantities. Both releases contained all titles except the Mark Walk remix of 'Dig It', which seemed to be a last-minute addition to the final release. The European 'version' was housed in a slimline jewel case. The North American release was reportedly issued on a gold-topped disc (green/gold recording surface), with the following info written in black marker: "Skinny Puppy "ReMix Dys Temper" Unmastered". The back of the case has the info: "Nettwerk Skinny Puppy ReMix Dys Temper -advance music Non Mastered Version", as well as the tracklist, the Nettwerk date and copyright info, a couple of nettwerk logos, a large Skinny Puppy logo on the right side, and the 'compact disk digital audio' symbol.

Left Handshake

Notes: This limited-to-1000 copies, one-track single was sold only at the Doomsday Puppy reunion concert, with the remaining 400 copies hand-numbered and sold briefly by direct mailorder through Subconscious. It was housed in a glossy picture cardsleeve simply titled 'Track 10', with the only info listed as 'limited edition: 1000 copies'. The mix included here is slightly different (Ogre's vocals here are less effected during the spoken parts) from the one included on early copies of the German 'BRAP: BACK & FORTH 3+4' 2xCD. This mix is also slightly different from the version previously leaked onto the "Intolerance" bootleg CD. This release was reputedly manufactured for the band by Dependent Records Germany.

The CD release was initially planned to include 'Hardset Head' but due to clearance and licensing problems between Nettwerk and American Recordings, the track was cut from release. It was finally cleared and released as a free MP3 file directly from Nettwerk's website on the day of release (August 21, 2001). The first German SPV release listed is an advance promo in a card sleeve with no artwork. The regular SPV releases are digipacks, whereas the North American versions are contained in jewel cases.

Notes: Technical Features: Widescreen, All Regions, 5.1 Surround Sound, Dolby Digital. Director: William Morrison. Audio Mix: Ken "Hiwatt" Marshall. Cover Art: Fredox. Cover Design: Steven R Gilmore. Inside Cover Photography: Austin Young

Notes: This release combines pro-shot footage recorded during Puppy's 2004 tours of North America (specifically the Montreal (11.09.04) and Toronto (11.10.04)) gigs with classic video footage of Puppy's 1990 and 1992 tours filmed by Jim Van Bebber in Cincinnati. 'Information Warfare' is William Morrison's documentary on the Gulf War and U.S. foreign policy. A hand-filmed 32-minute documentary of the band's 1988 'Head Trauma' tour of Europe, titled 'Eurotrauma: Skinny Puppy Live In Europe 1988'- was filmed by Dwayne Goettel and re-edited by Ogre.

Initial PAL copies of this DVD were riddled with digital pixillations and glitches, and SPV quickly recalled these copies for replacement.

Additionally, longtime SP friend/video coordinator and live guitarist William Morrison has mentioned he is working on another release to showcase his own video productions, including, of course, his video masterworks for Puppy, Ohgr, and other bands and artists.
