After the configure is set, one will now have to compile the source code by typing make at the prompt. After the make is complete, typing make install will install the libraries and other required files. One may confirm that the files have been installed correctly in the Apache directory tree by checking the directory (/path/to/apache/libexec/libphp4.so).
